Project Schiphol Lounge 2 – seating area 3
For the seating area on the second floor of Schiphol Lounge 2, we drew inspiration from Piet Mondrian’s early works. His paintings of blossoming trees reflect his transition from realism to abstraction, depicting a tree that gradually merges with its surroundings. The result is a composition of curved and straight lines in which form and environment begin to dissolve into one another.
This painting formed the conceptual basis for the layout of the seating area. Planes are projected onto the floor, while lines extend across the ceiling, with the space in between articulated through wooden, semi-transparent partition walls. These elements provide a sense of privacy from the surrounding areas while maintaining clear sightlines toward the platform and the aircraft beyond. By using the same type of wood as in the area below, the design creates a coherent and inviting place to stay. The atmosphere feels refined and calm, yet remains fully accessible to everyone. A space defined by comfort and tranquillity, with a quiet sense of luxury.
