Project Kleinhandelsgebouw

Where can we make the greatest impact by using the minimum? And how can we make common
sense, and not standards, lead the way? Because limitations should not lead to mediocrity, but to
innovative insights and architecture. This ‘low tech, no-nonsense’ approach forms the backbone and
identity of Het Klein Handelsgebouw. The materials and identity are inextricably linked: the structure
is the architecture, and the materials define the identity. The facade, with its composition of circular
bricks, stucco, and openings, and donor steel for a lightweight structure, demonstrate that a
sustainable office building doesn’t have to look dull or entirely glazed; instead, it can have a strong
urban presence.
